27 April 2023: Trenitalia-owned train operator c2c is celebrating His Majesty The King’s Coronation on 6 May with the release of a special map to showcase the numerous locations linked to royals throughout history along its London to South Essex route.
The train operating company has scoured through the archives and discovered the key locations that received royals of old and left their mark, helping to create the perfect day out to mark the historic occasion.
Highlights along the route include:
- The Tower of London, a short walk from Fenchurch Street Station, built during the reign of William the Conqueror and currently owned by King Charles III;
- Barking Abbey, which housed William the Conqueror in December 1066 whilst he built the Tower of London;
- Tilbury, which was graced with Elizabeth I as she gave her famous ‘Speech to the Troops’ to forces assembled to prepare them for the invasion of the Spanish Armada in August 1588;
- St Martin’s Bell Tower in Basildon, which was opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1999. The bells were gifted to the church and were all cast in Whitechapel over 500 years ago.

c2c customers are also encouraged to purchase tickets in advance on their c2c Smartcard to make travelling to all royal-themed attractions in London and Essex quicker and easier ahead of the Coronation.
Engineering works during Coronation weekend
There are a number of upgrade projects taking place over the weekend so we are advising customers to check their journeys ahead of time.

Normal service - Sunday 7th
Services via Ockendon will be diverted into Liverpool Street after Barking and will run non-stop via an alternative route between Upminster and Pitsea. A shuttle train will run between Upminster – Ockendon – Chafford Hundred. Rail replacement buses between Chafford Hundred and Pitsea and Upminster and Grays via Rainham. Services via Laindon will be to/from Liverpool Street station and will not stop at Fenchurch Street, Limehouse or West Ham but will call at Stratford. - Monday 8th
Bank Holiday service, additionally 4 trains per hour will be running between Fenchurch Street and Shoeburyness via Laindon between 07:00-22:00. Services via Ockendon will start/terminate at Southend Central.
