[Thursday 22 August 2024] Local rail operator Trenitalia c2c is delighted to announce it has achieved a full re-accreditation under the Safeguarding on Railway Scheme (SRS) with a pass mark of 81%, following a detailed audit by the British Transport Police (BTP).

The accreditation is awarded by the BTP and was developed by the Department for Transport (DfT) and BTP to help the increasing numbers of vulnerable people using the transport network. Being given the SRS re-accreditation shows that c2c has clearly demonstrated fulfilment of the performance and standards required against the SRS criteria.

The SRS accreditation is valid for a full year and the audit process took place between the 3-19 July, involving visits to Barking and Upminster Railway Stations, alongside interviews with staff and partners across the business, as well as a full review of c2c’s key documents.

Sarah White, Detective Chief Superintendent Head of Crime and Public Protection at the BTP, hailed c2c’s efforts to help vulnerable people, saying: “I would once more like to congratulate c2c for the work done to deliver the SRS criteria. It is a testament to the significant amount of work put in to protect and safeguard vulnerable people travelling on the network.”

c2c’s score of 81% means that it has topped 2023’s score of 77%, achieving 35.5 marks out of a possible 44. The c2c network saw nine interventions involving vulnerable people in the few weeks alone.

Stuart Goldfinch, c2c’s Safeguarding and Security Manager, said of the achievement: “We are proud to have received the Safeguarding the Railway Scheme re-accreditation from the BTP for another year and to have improved upon our score last year. This clearly demonstrates that we continually deliver safe and secure journeys, and we are committed to doing even more going forwards to further ensure the safety of our passengers.

“I would like to thank our frontline staff who work tirelessly for the benefit of our customers, keeping them feeling safe and secure, while providing a friendly and engaging service – this could not have been achieved without all their hard work.

“I would further like to remind anybody travelling on our line that feels that they are in a vulnerable situation, to contact the nearest member of station or train staff and they will help take care of you as best they can.”
