[4 July 2024] Local rail operator Trenitalia c2c has announced that it has reviewed and revised its net zero targets in line with its owning groups wider plans.
Following an announcement made in May – c2c’s sustainability targets validated by SBTi – c2c has confirmed that it is revising its ambitious net-zero science-based targets, previously set for 2050, with a new 2040 deadline.
Commenting, c2c’s Safety, Sustainability & Compliance Director, Stuart Browning, said: “Following ongoing discussions and a thorough review of our decarbonisation strategy, we have revisited our original net zero target of 2050 and will bring it forward ten years (to 2040) in line with our owning group’s plans.
“We are firmly committed to continuing to explore and introduce, where financially and operationally viable, further working and operational initiatives which will help reduce our impact on the environment and communities we serve, allowing us to reach net zero by 2040.
“We remain fully focused on providing the people of East London and south Essex with a safe, sustainable and efficient railway”.
c2c has committed to reaching net-zero Greenhouse Gases (GHG) emissions across the value chain by FY2040.
