As announced by the Department for Transport in December, national rail fares will increase across the country by 4.9% on 3 March 2024. This is significantly lower than July’s retail price index (RPI) figure of 9%, which fare increases have been historically based on.
For c2c customers this means the new fares will be live and available to purchase from our website and app (and other third-party retailers) from 3 March 2024. Customers purchasing tickets before the 3 March fares increase – for journeys taking place before or after this date – will only pay the current price.
How the national fares increase affects c2c
- Many fares from c2c stations will be increasing by 4.9%, in line with the national picture.
- Fares from stations being added to the wider contactless pay as you go area* will see a small additional increase above the 4.9%.
- Following the Mayor of London’s recent announcement, many fares between c2c stations in Zone 1-6 will be frozen.
